If you’ve ever wondered what your skills and knowledge were really worth, rpl is the answer. Standing for recognition of prior learning, or recognised prior learning, rpl is an academic approach to measuring the value of your experience against the benchmark of a nationally recognised qualification.

Why would you use rpl?

Done properly, rpl will give you the same qualification you can obtain if you sat in a classroom, or signed up for distance education – but it will cost less.

Yes, rpl saves you time – no need to go back to the classroom to be taught the skills and knowledge you’ve already picked up on the job. There are no exams to sit because your application is all based on the skills you’ve already developed.

Then there is also the saving in money as recognition of prior learning will also cost you less in dollars. A good rule of thumb is that it should cost you roughly half what the fees would be if you went and sat in that classroom.

How do you start rpl?

Well, the first step in any rpl application is speaking to a Specialist, like the Trainers and Assessors at Churchill Education.

We’ll talk to you about your work history, any volunteer work you’ve done or community groups you have been involved in, training on and off the job that you’ve received. We’re building a picture of the skills and knowledge you’ve gathered along the way that can be used to support an rpl application. An important piece of that puzzle is working out why you want a nationally recognised qualification? That helps us to match the units in the qualification to your skills and knowledge, but also to where you want to head with your new qualification.
